Kennedy was married when she was 14 and lived in a house behind the produce stand for most of her adult life. She would grade the produce, make trips to other states for peaches or corn and make sure her husband woke up in time to open the stand. Growing up, all of the couple's eight children worked at the stand or went door to door selling produce a practice that was permitted at the time. "It taught me to be a good worker. I knew what I was in for in life," Corcoran said.
In the early 1980s, Kennedy sold the stand and moved to seven acres on the outskirts of Eustis. Born and raised in Plant City, Kennedy spent her childhood around farms, so coming to Lake County in 1961 to open a produce stand with her husband was a natural step. Kennedy, who operated the stand with her husband, Jimmy Lee Kennedy for more than 20 years, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital Waterman. She was 63.
